Richard M. Ransohoff, MD, Gary J. Whitman, MD and Meredith A. Weinstein, MD

Departments of Neurology and Molecular Biology and the Mellen Center for Multiple Sclerosis Treatment and Research (Dr. Ransohoff), and the Department of Radiology (Drs. Whitman and Weinstein), Cleveland Clinic Foundation, Cleveland, OH.

We report 3 patients in whom multiple sclerosis appeared to be complicated by noncommunicating syringomyelia. Despite modest or minimal signs of myelopathy, each patient had cavitary spinal cord lesions detected with MRI. MS may be associated with noncommunicating syringomyelia.

Address correspondence and reprint requests to Dr. Richard M. Ransohoff, Department of Neurology S-90, Cleveland Clinic Foundation, Cleveland, OH 44195.

Dr. Ransohoff is a Harry M. Weaver Neuroscience Scholar of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
