Facial myokymia in the Guillain-Barre syndrome

A clinicopathologic study

We report clinical, electrophysiologic, and pathologic findings in a patient with Guillain-Barré syndrome with facial myokymia. At autopsy, the brainstem appeared normal, but there were focal areas of demyelination in the extra-axial facial nerve. At least in Guillain-Barré syndrome, damage to the peripheral facial nerve may be responsible for the facial myokymia.
