Brain death, irreversible coma, and words doctors use

Gaetano F. Molinari, M.D.

Department of Neurology, George Washington University School of Medicine and Health, Washington, DC.

Three patients who developed global aphasia without hemiparesis were ultimately shown to have had embolic infarcts. Global aphasia without hemiparesis is produced by two discrete Jesions in the dominant hemisphere, posterior-inferior frontal and posterior temporal-parietal, and is a sign of embolic encephalopathy.
