Degos disease

Neurologic complications and cerebral angiography

William A. Petit, Jr., M.D., Michael J. Soso, Ph.D., M.D. and Henry Higman, M.D.

Office of Student Affairs (Dr. Petit), and the Department of Neurology (Drs. Soso and Higman), School of Medicine, University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, PA.

A 21-year-old man developed left-sided headaches before the skin lesions of Degos disease appeared. After an insidious 4-month decline in intellectual, social, and motor function, he had a subarachnoid hemorrhage attributed to the vasculopathic changes of Degos disease. Cerebral angiography revealed alternating areas of narrowing and ectasia in distal intracranial arterial branches, causing a "beaded" appearance that may also be seen in other conditions.

Address correspondence and reprint requests to Dr. Petit, 294 Crittenden Way, Apartment 6, Rochester, NY 14623.

Accepted for publication March 30, 1982.
