Matthew Rizzo, M.D., E. Peter Bosch, M.D. and Cordell E. Gross, M.D.

Departments of Neurology (Drs. Rizzo and Bosch) and Surgery, Division of Neurosurgery (Dr. Gross), University of Iowa College of Medicine, Iowa City, IA.

We describe a woman who had isolated facial numbness that was caused by a spontaneous dural external carotid cavernous sinus fistula. The unusual syndrome mimicked trigeminal sensory neuropathy and was attributed to vascular compromise of the gasserian ganglion.

Accepted for publication June 18, 1981.
