Familial arteriovenous malformation of the brain

Donald C. Aberfeld, M.D. and Keshav R. Rao, M.D.

From the Department of Neurology, St. Vincent's Hospital and Medical Center, New York.

A brother and sister had arteriovenous malformations of the brain. Improved diagnostic techniques may reveal that the familial incidence of these malformations is higher than previously suspected. Findings of affected but asymptomatic individuals among a patient's relatives may provide the opportunity for surgical therapy.

Address correspondence and reprint requests to Dr. Aberfeld, Department of Neurology, St. Vincent's Hospital and Medical Center, 153 West 11th Street, New York, NY 10011.

Accepted for publication May 7, 1980.
