Dysthyroid and myasthenic myopathy of the medial rectus

A clinical pathologic report

Thomas C. Spoor, M. D., A. Julio Martinez, M. D., John S. Kennerdell, M. D. and Louis E. Mark, M. D.

From the Departments of Ophthalmology (Drs. Spoor and Kennerdell) and Neurology (Dr. Kennerdell), Eye and Ear Hospital, and the Department of Pathology (Neuropathology) (Dr. Martinez), Presbyterian-University Hospital, University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, PA.

A patient with simultaneous involvement of the right medial rectus by dysthyroid and myasthenic myopathy is presented. These abnormalities were confirmed by a positive Tensilon test, computerized tomography demonstrating an enlarged right medial rectus, and a right medial redus muscle biopsy demonstrating histopathology typical of both diseases.

Address correspondence and reprint requests to Dr. Kennerdell, Eye and Ear Hospital, 230 Lothrop Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15213.

Accepted for publication December 10, 1979.
