Calcification in brainstem gliomas

Patricia K. Duffner, M.D., David M. Klein, M.D. and Michael E. Cohen, M.D.

Departments of Neurology and Pediatrics (Drs. Duffner and Cohen), and Neurosurgery (Dr. Klein), State University of New York at Buffalo, School of Medicine, and the Children's Hospital of Buffalo, Buffalo, New York.

Calcification in brainstem gliomas is an unusual histologic and radiologic finding. To date, radiologic evidence of calcification in these tumors has not been reported. The two patients described here had evidence of calcification on either computerized tomography (CT) or plain skull films. Increasing availability of CT scans may provide a more accurate estimate of the incidence of calcification in these tumors.

Requests for reprints should be addressed to Dr. Michael E. Cohen, Children's Hospital, 219 Bryant Street, Buffalo, NY 14222.

Accepted for publication April 10, 1978.
